This Piko-branded model is a beautiful HO-scale reproduction of an SNCB electric locomotive. It is one of three prototypes of the 28 series designed after the Second World War for the Belgian railways.
Technical characteristics
- Fixing system: coupler NEM + link d'coupler short
- Minimum bend radius: 358 mm
- Integrated sound encoder;grey; PluX22
- Élighting red and white reversed; depending on direction of travel.
Interactive sound and visual effects
Despite the 1/87th reduction coefficient, this miniature locomotive reproduces many of the details of the SNCB's 2802 locomotive with great finesse. The pantographs, the axles of the two bogies and the front of the locomotive are particularly well imitated. In addition, the zinc shield adds weight to the whole. Thanks to the built-in eacute;encoder, different railway sounds can be triggered from the digital interface, making driving this loco much more interactive. The lighting in the driver's cabs and traffic lights changes according to the direction of travel, enhancing the overall realism.
Focus on SNCB série 28
After 1945, Belgium embarked on the high-speed construction of its railway network. To serve the national territory, the Societé Nationale des Chemins de Fer Belge (SNCB) ordered several electric locomotives from Baume & Marpent, a manufacturer of railway vehicles based in Hainaut. In 1949, three railcars rolled out of the company's workshops. They were christened the 28 series. Numbered 2801 to 2803, this 84-tonne rolling stock entered service the same year at Brussels station. Originally intended for passenger transport, they have a top speed of 130 km/h. SNCB uses these powerful engines very quickly to shunt and prepare passenger trains. They provided good and loyal service until 1996.
