Ultra-realistic visual and sound effects
This Piko miniature locomotive exudes quality. In fact, its die-cast zinc frame gives a real impression of solidity. What's more, this modern design reproduces many of the original's features with great finesse, such as the cockpit railings and footboards or the adjustable pantographs. The realism is further enhanced by the built-in encoder. This allows high-quality sound effects to be produced to order. The lighting of the cab and traffic lights reverses according to the direction of travel.
The history of the 28 series locomotives
After the Second World War, the lectrification of the Belgian rail network progressed rapidly. At the request of the SNCB, Baume & Marpent, a Belgian train builder, launched the production of several prototype electric locomotives. Its aim was to compete with foreign rolling stock by launching a locomotive made in Belgium. In 1949, three machines were assembled in the Hainaut region. They were numbered 2801 and 2803, then christened series 28. They are equipped with two 2-axle bogies designed for a track gauge of 1435 mm (normal track) and a single-axle rigid gear transmission. With a total mass of 84 tonnes, they could reach speeds of 130 km/h. Designed to pull passenger trains, they entered service in Brussels in 1949. However, these deliveries were mainly used by the SNCB as shunting locomotives to park or bring couplers to the platform. They were reformed in 1996.
