In 1942, reefer cars were built for the purpose of keeping suitable goods cool. These Interfrigo cars had several specific materials:
- a 300 mm thick layer and an inner lining made of zinc sheet to protect the wood from moisture
- to keep the doors watertight, the revolving doors were changed to sliding doors
- vertical panels were painted white
From the 1950s onwards, the German railroad company DB made several changes in not only the design, but also remodeling it. For example, the axles mounted on bearings required a lot of maintenance, and therefore wasted time, so engineers replaced them with other more modern bearings.
The manufacturer of model trains Brawa, therefore offers a reproduction under the HO scale: 1/87 of these cars.
