A little history:
In 2019, ÖBB-Infrastructure AG commissioned a new high-performance snow blower. The machine, used to clear snow-covered railway tracks, uses two twelve-cylinder MAN engines rated at 793 kW (around 1,100 hp). One unit drives the vehicle, the other is used to operate the slingshot. The snow blower creates up to 10,000 tonnes of snow per hour with a throw distance of 40 metres. It is approved for connecting journeys at speeds of up to 100 km/h. A 180° rotating ring allows it to turn on the spot. This means that even the toughest Alpine weather conditions can be mastered.
