The Compagnie des chemins de fer de Paris à Lyon et à la Méditerranée, a French railway company, operated this particular type of tombereau wagon. These rail vehicles were designed to transport bulk goods, such as coal, gravel, sand, etc. The Compagnie des chemins de fer de Paris à Lyon et à la Méditerranée (PLM) existed from 1857 to 1938. It operated a vast rail network linking Paris, Lyon and the Mediterranean regions of France. It became part of the SNCF when the latter was founded in 1937. The SNCF then took over PLM's rolling stock, including these tombereau wagons.
