In terms of diesel locomotive construction, Vossloh locomotive is one of the main leaders in the European market. It is their rail vehicles that continue to set new standards for mainline and shunting machinery. The G1000 can be used for both heavy shunting and light road service. Some of these were leased in 2006 to what was then Railion Deutschland (now DB Cargo) for testing as a possible successor to the 290/294 series.
