The BB 12000 series locomotives operate under electric power and single-phase alternating current 25 kV-50 Hz. These railway models are put into service by the French railway company SNCF.
These locomotives were also known as "fer à repasser". They could haul both fast passenger trains and freight trains. This series was from the same generation as the BB 13000, CC 14000 and CC 14100.
