A little bit of history:
The electric TGV ODuplex OUIGO trainsets were in service from 1995 to 2012. They are made up of 2-storey carriages, and movement inside the train is via the upper storey, which is much quieter for passengers on the lower level. As for the Bar/restaurant car, it does not have a lower level for passengers but is used by electrical equipment.
Duplex trainsets, when their length is the same as for network TGVs, have a carrying capacity of 133 seats. For an 8-car trainset (a trainset reaching 200 metres in length) the number of seats is 182 in 1st class and 328 in 2nd class. A total of 510 seats. With the OUIGO layout, 634 seats are available (in second class only).
The design of these trains has been very advanced, particularly in the area of weight reduction (using aluminium instead of steel for the body structure, except for the power cars), in order to comply with the 17 tonne axle rule mandatory on French high-speed lines.
