Choosing the right miniature tree

What is a miniature tree ?

In railway modelling, a miniature tree is a small-scale reproduction of a particular species of tree. This accessory is specially designed for use in a diorama. These artificial trees add realism to the design of a miniature railway layout by faithfully reproducing the trees that can be found along railway lines. They are available in our shop in a wide variety of sizes, shapes and colours to match the different types of environments found in the railway world, such as forests, fields or urban areas.

Why install a miniature tree?

The installation of miniature trees in a diorama is essential for adding verdure.  These decorative elements help to infuse an authentic atmosphere by faithfully reproducing; They faithfully reproduce the atmosphere found in a given region and era. Miniature trees also form a visual screen to hide parts of a railway network that should not be visible. In this way, they help to guide the viewer's eye to the key elements of the design.

What types of miniature tree exist?

Jura modélisme offers a large collection of artificial plants à different scales of réduction; mainly O, HO, N, TT and Z. For reasons of consistency, it is important to respect not only the standard heights used in railway modelling, but also the variation in the region of reference. For this reason, we offer a wide variety of tree species, so that enthusiasts of model railways can benefit from a database that makes it easy to find a particular forest or wood. You'll find oak, fir, chestnut, birch, pear, lime, elm, dead trees, charred trunks, vines, etc. on our shelves. Looking for a miniature tree with characters? We also have a number of playlets that can be easily integrated into a model railway layout.

How to fix a miniature tree in a diorama ?

A miniature tree is a very volatile plastic accessory. To fix it in a diorama, there are several methods. The most commonly used method involves applying a dab of glue to the base of the miniature tree to make it stand upright. It is advisable to use a quick-setting glue that has been specially designed for moderate use. They often prevent the plastic from whitening. The disadvantage of this method is that it is difficult to remove a miniature tree once it has been glued. Perhaps the easiest way to do this is to drill a small hole in the base of the accessory and insert a metal or plastic rod. This rod can then be inserted into the floor of the diorama. This technique makes it easy to place the miniature tree in the landscape.
