Charles de Gaulle's appeal to the French to fight the German occupiers, 18 June 1940: "To all the French. France has lost a battle! But France has not lost the war! The government forces who panicked and forgot their honour were able to surrender and the country
to servitude. Yet nothing is lost! Nothing is lost because this war is a world war. Have the mighty powers of the free universe
not yet abandoned. One day, these forces will crush the enemy. And then, on that day, France must be there to win. Then it will regain its freedom and its greatness. That is my goal, my only goal! That's why I'm calling on all French people, wherever they may be, to join me in the fight, in a spirit of sacrifice, with complete confidence. Our country is in mortal danger. Let's fight together to save it. Long live France! Charles de Gaulle.
